About

When you're examining mushrooms that you and others have collected, it can be daunting to open your new field guide and use it for the first time. In this tutorial, we share tips about what to pay attention to while you examine your specimens. This can help you compare your findings to the keys in your field guide. This tutorial is intended to supplement a more complete course. It is not intended to be used as your only learning resource. The safest way to learn about mushroom identification is to take an in-person class, study respected field guides, and practice alongside others with more experience. When in doubt, throw it out!
